Corynanthe, Welw. (the note on Corynanthe Yohimbe)

J. H. Holland, Part III, p. 352. Transcribed from the page image on September 25, 2026, as printed.

Corynanthe Yohimbe, K. Schum., the “Yohimbe” of the Cameroons, “Endun” of the French Congo, is the source of the “Yohimbe bark,” from which the alkaloid “Yohimbine” is obtained. Some particulars of this bark are given in Notizblatt, Bot. Gart. Berlin, No. 25, 1901, “Uber die Stammpflanze der Johimberinde,” by E. Gilg and K. Schumann, pp. 92–97, and in S. Nigeria Gazette, July 14, 1909, Suppl. p. 27, “Report by Imp. Inst. on Bark sent by Conservator of Forests S. Nigeria.”

There are no specimens at Kew from Nigeria.

Only the note on the yohimbe tree is transcribed; the article on Corynanthe paniculata above it on the same page is not.
